Marsh grasses marching.
When February winds blow in,
Gulls face seaward.

Venturing out tomorrow morning for a New Year’s walk, especially if you walk the beach at Watch Hill in Rhode Island, will be unseasonably warm. At least based on the past few New Year’s Day walks when wind chill put it into single digits or lower. Even with an unseasonable 35º temperature the wind, from the West, at 12-14 knots will feel like 25ºs. So bundle up, layers will help some but you’ll be walking back from Napatree Point into the wind. A buff, scarf, or mask will help.
Looking forward to walking with you in 2020. May you have a happy start to a New Year.
Morning mountain sun
Arising to a new day
Winter slips away
In winter slumber…
Dreams, torn asunder, till all
my egos exposed!
On new moonlit snow,
patchwork shadows, two that move.
Fox, Vixen on the prowl.
Piercing halo peel,
releasing sun’s essence.
On winter solstice.
Venus morning star,
and my thoughts turn to you.
Beauty shining bright.
Spring has sprung a leak!
Winter precipitation,
Thermostat needs a tweak.
Bands of blue and purple,
Signs of winter’s brutal weather,
Have bruised the sky.
Winter painting is always a challenge so most of this was done back in the studio. Colors can be a surprising thing in nature. The black roof that’s white in bright sunlight, this pool of water that is so cold it’s black. Sketch book and camera, back to warm truck, finish in studio. And here we are the end of March, into Spring, and the weather peeps are predicting snow.
