Shooting star, bright joy,
Lighting the darkness of night.
All too quickly gone,
Shooting star, bright joy,
Lighting the darkness of night.
All too quickly gone,
Venus morning star,
and my thoughts turn to you.
Beauty shining bright.
Oh, what should we seek,
happiness or contentment?
A different world…
One leaf bud breaking,
new horizons unfolding.
Springs emerging day.
In midwatch hours,
Bows slicing dark rolling sea,
luminescent wake.
While others sleep,
The vigilant stand watch over
The silent sea.
Bo’sun throws line aloft,
It snakes down, coils, twists, turns.
Incomparable design!
(To the memory of Edgar Whitney)
If I relaxed totally,
And, unbound my mind,
Where would I be?
Brooklyn, from the hood!
Dancer, chartreuse, big screen, wide screen,
Never out of touch!
